Getting started
Install SpecMiru, open it on a page and run your first inspection in a minute.
SpecMiru is a Chrome extension that inspects web pages locally and turns what you select into a compact, precise context you can paste into an AI coding assistant.
Requirements
- Google Chrome 116 or later, on desktop.
- No account or sign-up required.
Install
- Open the SpecMiru listing on the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome. SpecMiru is only distributed through the Chrome Web Store.
- Pin SpecMiru: open Chrome's Extensions menu (puzzle icon) and click the pin next to SpecMiru.
Open SpecMiru on a page
Open any regular website, then either:
- click the SpecMiru icon in the toolbar, or
- press Alt+Shift+S.
The panel opens in Overlay mode by default: it floats above the page without changing the page's width. See Display modes to use Chrome's side panel instead.
Clicking the icon (or using the shortcut) is what gives SpecMiru temporary access to the current tab. SpecMiru has no access to your other tabs or to all websites.
Your first inspection
- Click Inspect an element, or press the shortcut again.
- Move the mouse over the page. In Click mode, the element under the pointer is outlined; click it (or press Enter) to pin it. In Hover mode, the panel follows your mouse live.
- Read the pinned element in the Overview, Layout, Style and Structure tabs. Each value has its own copy button.
- Click Prepare for AI to open Before sending: choose the format and options, review the exact preview, then copy.
- Press Esc to stop inspecting.
Or analyze the whole page
From the home screen, open:
- Code — properties, CSS, DOM tree and AI context;
- Design — colors, typography, measurements, contrast and capture;
- Assets — images, SVG, icons, media and export.
Pages SpecMiru cannot inspect
Chrome does not let any extension run on its internal pages (chrome://…), its settings or the Chrome Web Store. Content inside frames from another origin cannot be entered either. See Troubleshooting.
